Soundproofing

Noise was my only major concern when I purchased Drifter - & I wanted to do a good job in a solution - (and justify my decision).
I also used Soundown (soundown.com) acoustic carpet underlay -expensive but it works. In the $100+ category. They shipped direct via. UPS
A sheet 4.5 x 7' of 1/4" x 1 lb/sf will cover the floor of the pilot house and provides an "airtight" seal that is critical in stopping sound "leaks". I covered the sheet with loose indoor outdoor carpet.
The material is flexible but does make routine access to the engine compartment more awkward. Removing the bench seat would give more room to fold the material. I don't remove the seat & eventually cracked the underlay - the duct tape repair however works well. Also be careful not to step on a fold of the material --that may have started the crack.
To finish the job I replaced the trim at the aft end of the pilot house floor - to give a new lip to keep the new floor covers in place.
All said & done the job reduces the Nissan dun to a reasonable level & makes normal conversation possible - a very satisfying result.
Good luck with your project.
We may do the Ottawa trip this year - will post our trip plan & perhaps meet other Albineers along the way.
